Question by Caroline: Do Canon or Nikon DSLR lenses work with an Olympus E500 series camera body?
I have an Olympus E-510 body (the kit… ugh) and it’s working out pretty well for me, I love the feel of the body and it’s just about right for me. There isn’t as much selection among Zuiko lenses as one might hope, so I am wondering if Canon or Nikon lenses can be compatible with my Olympus?

No they will not.

That is why it is so important to do the research before you decide on a camera system. In fact, none of the older Olympus lenses will work on the new 4/3rds Olympus DSLR bodies. You will be buying the 4/3rds Zuiko or leica lenses for your camera from now on.

This is one thing the sales people neglect to tell buyers of DSLR’s is that of all the DSLR’s on the market, Nikon has the most lenses available for all but their entry level DSLR’s since 1959, Canon is next with all the lenses made since 1988 available for their EOS DSLR’s and Pentax can still use all their K-mount lenses on their DSLR’s There can be a bit of an issue figuring out which of the old Minolta auto-focus lenses will work 100% on the Sony DSLR’s

Actually I have not heard that any of the fine Olympus lenses are anything but excellent glass.

Question by BigCheese: What is the difference between these 2 Nikon DSLR lenses ?
Nikon 55-200MM F4.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX Black Lens

AND

Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6 AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens

And are both of these compatible with the plain Nikon D40 ?

Thanks in advance !

Those 2 refer to the exact same lens. And it’ll work fine with a D40. I use it with my D40 and it works fine.

Note get the VR version of the lens. There’s a cheaper non-VR version of the 55-200, but optical quality is supposedly worse. VR also comes in handy a lot with telephotos since they’re easily affected by camera shake.
